Length selection

Choose enough fiber without oversizing the aircraft load

The longest available fiber drum is not automatically the right choice. Choose the shortest length that covers the real operating and recovery requirement while preserving the aircraft's payload margin, mounting space, balance, and payout route.

Engineering and procurement context

A simple length decision

Start with the required working distance, then add only the allowance needed for the actual route and test plan. Compare that length against the drum's dimensions, weight, fiber diameter, and tensile requirements. If the UAV platform has a tight payload or mounting limit, a shorter model may be easier to integrate and validate.

For procurement, record the length as a physical requirement rather than a vague range. This lets the supplier discuss the closest model, the remaining margin, and any conditions that must be checked during a platform-level test.

  • Define the actual working distance and route
  • Compare length against weight, size, and payload margin
  • Confirm the selected model on the target aircraft before volume purchase
